Summer Arts 2010

1. let's imagine June 28 - July 1
What happens when you are eight feet tall? Can you build a giant shark out of paper mache? This week, we will offer classes in stilt walking, puppetry, "funkiture," & fantasy art. We will take ordinary objects and create a world that only artists can imagine.

II. world of art July 5 - 8
Have you ever wanted to mummify a Barbie or write in Hieroglyphics or Chinese? This week we will explore art from around the world. We’ll look at different cultures, food, and languages, and find out that it is a very small planet indeed.  

III. music everywhere July 12 - 15
The ReUse Band is back with a performance at Midtown Market on July 17th! Papa is here from Africa to teach us drumming and African Dance. We’ll create sculptures that sing in the wind, and fairy houses that make their own music.

IV. mad, mad science July 19 - 22
Science is art and art is science. Build your own rocket ship designs and a bicycle-powered generator. Cook with science and discover what makes bread rise . Find out how photographers use science for photos, and create art that spins and flies!  

V. build it, break it July 26 - 29
Build your own bike, take apart a VCR, and build a robot.  Use the sun power to create a solar boat.  We’ll create bike puppets that move when you peddle and more!

Students MUST have lunch before they arrive.
Snacks will be provided.

drop-off & pick-up
Students arrive at 12:30p and leave at 4:00p. Students must be picked up by 4 every day unless they have written permission to walk home. Staff are not able to stay with students past 4:15p.

family nights
Family Nights are a time for us all to come together and eat good food, showcase all the art the students have made, see student performances, and meet all of the staff, volunteers, and interns who are working with your children. The meal is provided by Urban Arts Academy!
Family night this year is July 15th 5:00p - 6:30p
